Lessons of Lot

Genesis 19: 17
"And as they brought them out, one said "Escape for your life. Do not look back or stop anywhere in the valley. Escape to the hills, lest you be swept away"

Genesis 19: 26
"But Lot's wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt."

As I was struggling to figure out what to write on the blog these last couple of days, I unexpectedly came across a certain picture. The picture was of a stone near the Dead Sea, which locals claim is Lot's wife (the tallest stone in the picture below).
The fact that people claim this stone as Lot's wife made me think about the story in Genesis of God destroying Sodom, and how the angels warned Lot that neither he nor his family were to look back or stop anywhere. If you read through the story on your own time, you might also agree with me on the fact that God had A LOT of patience with Lot. I mean, even angelic beings came to him to warn him to flee for HIS LIFE. Even then, Lot is still scared for his life.
Isn't that how you and I are? God tells us to do something- it could be praying for someone, giving an encouraging word, or being free in worship- and yet even if God himself gives us the order, we find ourselves afraid. We are afraid that we'll get hurt. But we need to remember as children of the almighty God that He does not give us orders to make us feel uncomfortable, he gives us orders that may be uncomfortable to complete to show us what we shouldn't miss out on. I promise you, if God urges you to do something to bring Him glory- do it! He will edify you and you will taste and see the glory of God right before your eyes.

Each and every one of us has a destiny to get to. I believe that destiny is not just to graduate college and get a job, but also a spiritual destiny. God has a place where he SPIRITUALLY wants us to be. It is where the will of God is that He has purposed you to do His work in. There is just one thing to be aware of: the devil does not like that. In fact, the devil hates it. He has a tactic that he believes can keep you away from the purpose God is calling you to. Just so you know, GOD IS ROOTING FOR YOU. Just like the angels gave Lot and his family the order to not look back "lest you be swept away", God is speaking the same words into your life! You have a destination ahead! There is just a couple of roadblocks....

DISTRACTIONS.
As Lot and his family were running, Lot's wife looked back. Why did she look back? Maybe all that was going on hindered her rhythm pattern? No. Lot's wife got DISTRACTED. She was probably thinking while escaping that maybe God, the angels, and her husband were all wrong. Maybe she was meant to stay in the comfort zone of where she has been her whole life. Maybe she thought life would be better where she was despite the fact she was going to be destroyed rather then where she was headed. Whatever the reasoning was, she got distracted. And because she got distracted, she disobeyed the Lord's command and stayed right where she was. She missed her "what could have been" destiny. Child of God, you have a destiny to get to. Do not let comfort or distractions keep you like it did Lot's wife- STUCK. God wants you to progress! So ask the Lord to help your eyes remain on Him!

 PAIN
As Lot's wife was running, maybe the sound of screams and death pained her. She probably was so overwhelmed by the devastation she was around that she could do nothing but look back. You and I, on our race, will remember past hurt. The devil will put these thoughts of failure and agony into our hearts to stop us from progressing. But I tell you, the promise of God will be your guide! No weapon formed against you will prosper! Keep your eyes on the prize, and the Lord will give you the grace to sustain according to his promises.

So whoever you are, know that God has a place with your name on it. He is preparing you for that place. That means you will have to make sacrifices, but it is for treasures that last in heaven. Keep your eyes on Jesus, so you will end up being stuck in the same place like Lot's wife. The tactics of this world and the devil will not overtake you if you have the blood of Jesus over you! "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matt. 6:33)
