The Bigger picture

I sat here today, stressed out as I wrote this blog. I worried about whether it would make any sense, whether the punctuation would be correct and whether it sounded like a well written article. What I kept forgetting was to look deep within the words in the article and assess the value that it could bring into the spiritual lives of the readers. I realized that I was forgetting to look at the bigger picture. When I realized this I quickly stopped, hit the backspace button and sought God for guidance in writing this. It was then that it occurred to me that often our walk with the Lord is just like the experience I went through in attempts to write an article.

As Christians we forget the importance of looking at the bigger picture. Often we focus on issues in our relationships with others, our careers, regrets from our past or sometimes even unanswered prayers. We get so caught up in all the worries of the world that we forget the most important piece of our walk with the Lord, which is our ultimate goal in life and death and that is eternity.

“Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

As the scripture states, a paradigm shift must take place in our day to day lives. The Bible sets the expectations clear that we must focus on eternity and not on our worries. The book of 1st Peter tells us to cast our worries on the Lord. Instead, focusing on eternity will reassure us of what we work hard towards every day as Christians. We must constantly examine ourselves to see if we are living our lives with eternity as our perspective. We are to proactively ask ourselves everyday if we are focused on the small details in our lives or the bigger picture.

As the old hymn goes, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.”

The assurance that this song brings me is that I do not need to worry about the small things that may not go my way.

I must turn my eyes up on the one who saved me and focus on spending eternity with him. Step back with me for a moment and look at the bigger picture, look at eternity and how minute the issues that you are worrying about are. Let us take delight in knowing all this that we are going through is just a spec in comparison to our eternity with our Savior.
